Parent to Progeny: A Poem of the Heart

We live in different continents, perhaps different worlds

I know you are only just a phone call away,

but it’s easier this way.

Child, my birthday’s are not meant to be celebrated anymore,

They mark the anniversary of one less year with you, for sure.

The day you see me old or have you already?

Please go steady.

Have the patience and understand,

for this is foreign land

I am losing myself,

No longer meant for the shelves.

I fumble, I drool

I am no longer cool!

I lose track of things,

my memory doesn’t keep pace

You know it stings,

I feel disgrace.

Allow me the lapse,

This too shall pass

At my age life is survived, not lived

Someday, you would understand.

I love debates, books and long walks. I also spoke on a TEDx platform once, so I am going to go ahead and say that I am a TEDx speaker (*Laughs innocently*)
