I am among those who wait all year long for their birthday and consider it one special day above all. As the covid-19 pandemic started, I started thinking and believed that it’s going to be over by my birthday which falls in November and I’ll be able to celebrate my special 16th year with one more reason.

But sadly it did not end by November, and I could not celebrate my Sweet 16 with friends. Nonetheless, we planned to go ahead with plan B, a small family celebration keeping social distancing in mind. My Family went online for the gifts well in time and there was nothing else on the list except cutting the cake.

I was very much convinced that I would be stuck attending online classes and studying even on my birthday but this time, I was wrong.

On the morning of the 24th day of November, I woke up to a beautiful surprise.

Half-asleep I was pushed out to our balcony only to be jolted back into consciousness at the sight of sixteen sweet little plants for my keenly awaited sixteenth birthday. It was a gift from my aunt and uncle, who could not join us.

I was overjoyed and extremely excited to take care of them and water them every day. In the evening, after getting pots for my little blossoming presents. I called my aunt and uncle to thank them for their gift, which I dearly loved so much. They told me that it is a ‘Gift of Greens’, which will teach me the real joy of getting older, ‘Watching my birthday trees grow as I grow’.

I love debates, books and long walks. I also spoke on a TEDx platform once, so I am going to go ahead and say that I am a TEDx speaker (*Laughs innocently*)
