For the longest time I believe that first impressions are the last impressions, but interacting with my French teacher today as she reminisced and felt nostalgia about her past batches and the fun they had reminded me that there is always more to discover about a person and that true connections are built over time.

People unfold in layers

People are incredibly multifaceted, each carrying unique experiences, anecdotes, and stories within them. Every individual brings something new and distinctive to the table. Interacting with someone leaves a lasting impact, and both parties take away something different from the encounter.

Merely meeting someone can only provide a glimpse into the surface of who they are. To truly know someone, we must choose to stay connected, allowing for a gradual exploration of their hidden depths. There are parts of ourselves that we may keep concealed, moments of modesty, and aspects that we may be too selfish to reveal.

Letting go of ' The First Impressions' Bias

Meeting new people with the belief that first impressions are the last impressions can hinder our ability to form genuine connections. It sets the stage for judgment and overlooks the richness that lies beneath the initial encounter.

The truth is, from the first interaction to the last, we steadily piece together the impression we have of someone. It's like painting a canvas, adding shades that truly represent who we are, rather than hastily splashing paint and hoping for a great picture to emerge.

Just as the saying goes,

"A picture is worth a thousand words,"

So are people.

Each person has a wealth of stories and intricacies that can't be captured in a single glance. By embracing the multidimensional nature of individuals, we open ourselves up to meaningful connections and the beauty of discovering what lies beneath the surface.

Let's celebrate the diversity and depth of human interactions, unlocking the potential for authentic connections that transcend first impressions. Together, we can paint a vivid tapestry of understanding, compassion, and appreciation for the unique shades that each individual brings to the world.
